Investigative Groups

I enjoyed our investigative group (IG) last semester and think that it served its purpose very well. As an outreach project, I would like to continue having an investigative group. I would ask for FOCUS members to participate in an investigative group and am expecting up to 6 other people to participate. I would be responsible for the topic, but may have others lead the discussion (people can help me, but I am responsible). It would be my duty to teach the members what is needed to participate and run a group.

I need to have a topic ready by the retreat so that I can introduce the idea and we all hit the ground running after the retreat. We would have one week to invite people and would hopefully start the group(s) the week of January 28th (likely needing to push it back a week). Having a second IG later in the semester, extending the first IG, or just stopping mid-semester will be determined later in the semester.

Personal Growth as a Group

A weekend soon after finals, I visited a friend at UT proper. He is a devout Christian and was visibly reborn after obtaining his faith. He took me to their Campus House of Prayer (CHOP) where the two of us worshiped together, prayed, and studied for a good while. The CHOP is a cross-ministry place where Christians can come (they commonly reserve a (non-exclusive) time) to worship and pray.

I commonly fail at having quiet times and general proactive worship. From what I understand, I am not the only one. From what I understand, I am not the only one who realizes the benefits and wants to have more quiet times, but doesn't.

I think that FOCUS could really benefit from a CHOP, but we can't do the same thing for reasons that I have not provided enough information to understand. So my current idea is to have LTG-like groups (group-like groups... nice) that are dedicated to small-scale worship and prayer. I think that the groups would force some people out of their comfort zone and help them grow outside of the group. I realize that this would be yet another group meeting, but I think it would be worthwhile to many people.

Does anyone want to be in my group or have a better idea?
